Lift inspection service

21 August 2019

If you have a stair lift, wheelchair lift or passenger lift in your church, you are required to have the equipment inspected at the correct intervals.

Why are lift inspections important?

StairsIn order to comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) which are part of current Health and Safety legislation, lifts should be periodically examined and inspected by a competent person.

If you have employees this extends to the Provision of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). Failure to comply with health and safety legislation can have serious consequences:

  • Increased risk of accidents and ill-health
  • Enforcement of the legislation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
  • Heavy fines or even imprisonment.
Escalators and moving walkways are not subject to LOLER however, guidelines recommend a thorough examination, normally at six-monthly intervals.
